Day 6 May 27, 2010

Half of the 3" x 10" original wood joists in the new fire egress in the cellar, have been "sistered", bolted with the 16 gauge 2" x 8" C channels. Chipping the existing CMS walls in the backyard is still under demolition, with probe holes being dug for the structural engineer. Three vans full of debris were removed from the backyard today.

Day 5 May 26 2010

Existing steel stairs from rear of bar to backyard were removed and a temporary wood stairs were put in it's place to allow the evening barback to get supplies for the evening crowds.
Architect and structural engineer met to review the probes for the footing by the contractor at Rudy's neighbor, Poseidon Bakery's adjoining wall. It was determined that no shoring needs to be done along the 12' at their wall. Careful probing around Rudy's chimney will be done to determine whether shoring is required. Also shoring maybe done along the 7' x 4" decking perpendicular to Poseidon's wall, or digging maybe done on an angle where shoring may otherwise not be needed.
Chipping away at existing cement block wall in backyard was continued. Bolting the 2" x 8" x 16 gauge C channels to the original 3" x 10" wood joists continued along the new cellar fire egress.

Day 4 May 25, 2010

Coutinue digging out existing footings and excavate for new cellar bathroom. The general contractor recommended we place our new post supports for the new backyard deck approximately 18" from out next store neighbors wall, eliminating the need for expensive shoring. Our structural engineer will visit the site tommorrow, along with the Architect, to evaluate the change. Additionally the general contractor cut some of the 16 gauge 2" x 8" C channels to begin "sistering" them with bolts to the original 3" x 10" wood joists, in the new fire corridor egress in the cellar to street.

Day 3 May 24, 2010

Burn out remaining steel beams and 4" lolly columns" of existing decking. Start digging for removal of existing footings for the "lolly columns". Architect is allowing existing 4" x 4" wood posts in cellar fire corridor to remain. Two layers of 5/8" sheetrock will be applied on either side of 15/8" x 20 gauge metal studs, to maintain our required 2 hour fire rating for the backyard fire egress to the street, with a minimum width of 44".

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Day 2 May 21, 2010

Removed most of the existing steel decking. Delivery of 16 gauge 2" x 8" C channels for sintering existing 3" x 10" wood joists in fire corridor, bolts, sheet rock, compound, misc, wood studs and plywood.

Day 1 May 20, 2010

Began demolition on the reinforced cement block cellar walls for furture excation for the new women's cellar bathroom. Removed a tube column and some of the steel deck framing.

The Start

Finally! After 2 years of Dept of Buildings(DOB) Bureaucratic red tape and delays(we could write a book) Rudy's backyard renovation has begun! The job is estimated to take 11 weeks starting from may 20th that should be about auguest 5th!! We plan to have a nice deck overlooking some of the yard. We are planing to have some nice lighting and maybe am old fashioned turn of the century street lamp or two for soft illumination and atmoshepere. We also plan to add some greenery which Raul a Rudy's regular and plant expert has offered to help us with. We will have a dedicated RESTROOMS in the backyard area not a portepotty but something real nice. We will also upgrade and expand Rudy's restrooms inside the bar. We are sure the ladies will be happy to hear this. When the yard open we will continue to show the yankees and mets at night projected on the 200sq foot screen(our neighnors wall.)
Thank you everyone who signed our petition and supported us in out crazy attemp to do more business, pay more taxes and maybe employ more people who also will pay more taxes. We will try and post a daily chronical of Rudy's barkyard progress if you care to follow along. It's going to be great.

P.S. Suggestion welcome

Thank you everyone
